Kia ora!
I’m Reuben Smith, a student journalist who’s proud to call the NZ Broadcasting School home.
I’ve been asked the question, ‘Why journalism?’ a few times over the years, but I think I summed it up best when I was asked it on a cloudy July day in an Ōtautahi mosque. The phrase ‘journalism is the first draft of history’ has beyond captivated me as a student.
We owe it to posterity and the historians of tomorrow to talk about what’s happening right now.
I have a keen passion for politics, global news and photojournalism. Over my time at Broadcasting School, I’ve also worked on environmental, science and sports stories.
Originally from Tāmaki Makaurau, I’m loving the ability to produce stories for Metro News here in Ōtautahi. I use every story as an opportunity to perfect my craft and gain vital connections.
Can’t wait to connect with you!
