Kia ora!
I’m Izie, a second-year journalism student at the NZ Broadcasting School. Buckle in.
Originally a farm kid from Woodville then Bulls, I along with my family of seven moved to Ashburton years ago and boy does it show. Due to nothing happening there, I turned to media for entertainment. I’ve grown up with all kinds of it - Country Calender, Top Gear, Frankie Mag, the Ashburton Courier and 1News to name a few.
Over the past year and a half, B-school has taught me how to turn that consuming into creating. Our class has collectively covered every corner of Ōtautahi, pestering anyone and everyone for radio, TV and online stories. Up in the hills may be where I work best though - catch me interviewing anyone about anything bike related and I’ll be grinning like a lunatic.
Alongside course work, I’m the editor for Ara’s Student Magazine Waha Kōrero for 2025. I’ve always nitpicked at mate’s essays, so to put that work into pay has been a huge turning point for my ego. It’s taught me communication, initiative, very tight time management and all those other good things.
I'm looking forward to the rest of this year and beyond. Will she make it out of Ashburton? Stay tuned.
