Kia ora,
I’m Rebecca King, originally from the Wairarapa, where the sheep outnumber the people and everyone knows everyone (and their dog). These days I’m based in Ōtautahi Christchurch, studying at the New Zealand Broadcasting School (NZBS) and chasing the dream I’ve had since I was young, heavily inspired by Kiwi legends Hilary Barry and Mike McRoberts.
I completed a Bachelor of Communication at Massey University in Wellington where I then worked as a journalist at the Wairarapa Times-Age. I quickly learnt the ropes, met interesting people, and mastered the art of producing stories on a tight deadline.
I then I headed off on my OE, which quickly became a personal challenge to visit more countries than I have fingers and toes....and I’m still adding to the list whenever I can. After returning from travelling late last year, I knew broadcasting journalism was where my heart was, so I applied for NZBS and am loving every minute of it!
Now back in the classroom, I’m sharpening my skills with a pretty little student loan in tow. Asking lots of questions and calling it a career path doesn't sound too shabby to me! Outside of that, I’m usually talking sport like it’s breaking news, trying to recreate the best Sri Lankan curry I've ever had, or getting outdoors.
