In the heart of the city, a unique sanctuary is quietly transforming what it means to belong. Cherish, a community-focused space dedicated to wellbeing and connection, is welcoming people from all walks of life to take an hour out of their day to stop, rest, and reflect.

Founded by Alison Hume, Cherish offers a range of experiences, from meditation sessions and classes to one-on-one support and therapeutic services.

Described as a hub for kindness, compassion, and shared humanity, the space provides something increasingly rare in a bustling city, a space to simply be.

Visitors are encouraged to drop in at any time, whether to sit in the quiet meditation room, enjoy a cup of tea in the lounge, or browse the small library. The aim is simple but powerful, create an environment where people can “press pause” and reconnect with themselves.

We like to call it a sanctuary in the heart of the city, where people can come and find nourishment and attend free midday meditations, Cherish’s Admin and Operations Manager, Nicole O’Hearne said.

“In the mediation room, we also have a self-care corner where people can come and do their own meditative practices.”

Monday-Friday 1pm meditation sessions have become a cornerstone of the daily rhythm, often followed by a cup of tea and chat.

The physical space itself reflects the intention behind Cherish’s project, designed with a focus on warmth and simplicity, reinforcing the sense of sanctuary.

While donations are welcomed to help sustain the space, Cherish operates as a registered charity.

For many, it begins with a quiet moment, a shared conversation, or a simple cup of tea. Cherish stands as a reminder that even in the busiest parts of the city, there is room for stillness, and connection.
