Kia Ora!
My name is Alex Colenso and I’m a journalism student here at NZBS.
Growing up in a small and rural part of New Zealand taught me the importance of journalism early on. You didn’t want to be that guy who was ‘living under a rock,’ so staying informed was a must.
I applied to the broadcasting school because of my love for writing, storytelling and sport, and I’ve really enjoyed putting those three things together over the last year.
Sport is definitely a big passion of mine. I grew up in a sporting household and have played numerous sports my whole life. I found out in high school that I not only had a passion for playing, but also writing and talking about it. Although, sport is always front of mind, I am definitely open and interested in all kinds of news, and have really enjoyed working on lots of different stories this year.
I am a keen learner, and work really well in team environments. I’m able to stay calm and work well under pressure, and have no issue with meeting deadlines.
I’m really looking forward to taking the skills I’ve learnt and putting them into action.
