Ryan Fox has captured his second PGA title of the year today, winning the RBC Canadian Open.
Fox, who had led for a fair bit of the tournament, had to make birdie on the final hole to tie with American Sam Burns and send it to a playoff.
28-year-old Burns was looking for his sixth victory on the PGA tour, and had a solid last round shooting eight under to set himself in the pole position. He had a massive chance at birdie and the win on the very first playoff hole, but missed the putt.
Fox managed to keep himself in the playoff, which consisted of four goes on the 18th, by saving some pars after some rough tee shots.
But a big second shot on the fourth time round, which Fox described as, “One of the best shots I’ve ever hit in my life” put him in the driver's seat. He then proceeded to put it away with a silky two putt.
It’s been a great year for Fox, who before 2025 had not won a PGA tour event, and now has become one of five golfers to have multiple wins on the tour this year.
Today's win earns him around 3 million NZD, 500 FedEx cup points and entry to the 2026 Sentry, Players Championship, Masters and PGA Championship. The win also pushes him into the US Open which starts this Thursday at the Oakmont Country Club. It will be his second major appearance of the year.
Fox was lost for words after his big win.
“It’s crazy, the last four weeks I’ve played some of the best golf I’ve ever played. To get a couple of wins on the PGA tour in a month is pretty surreal.”
“I just appreciate all the support, it’s been amazing.”
