Two separate incidents have slowed traffic on the Southern Motorway this morning.

A pair of crashes in quick succession kept emergency services busy in Christchurch this morning.

Emergency services were called to a motorcycle crash at 7.30am, near Marshs and Curletts roads.

A second incident involving two vehicles occurred shortly after, on the Southern Motorway near Halswell Junction Road.

One ambulance responded to the incident and six patients were assessed, but did not need to be taken to hospital.

NZTA is advising road users to expect delays and take extra care while travelling through the area.
