NZFPU says strikes have been cancelled after discussions with FENZ

The New Zealand Professional Firefighters Union (NZPFU) has cancelled tomorrow's planned strike action, following discussions with FENZ this week.

A cautionary new strike notice has been issued for November 21st if an agreement is not reached, and a notice for a strike on November 14th remains in place.

NZPFU says it won't rule out further strike action, and adds there's no guarantee of a settlement.

The union says the discussions, which took place over three days were "intelligent and thoughtful."

"The NZPFU has re-worked some claims in an innovative way in a bid to find a framework which could lead to a settlement.

"FENZ thought the proposal was worthy of exploring.

"The parties have set down a meeting for Monday (10th November) to discuss that information."

Paid Firefighters have been striking over having no pay increase since July 2023.
