After a wet October, balmy weather is expected across the country today. Ōtautahi is forecast to be the hottest place in the motu with a high of 29 degrees. As of 9 am, Banks Peninsula was warmest in the country sitting at 23 degrees and Christchurch City was at 19 degrees.
Meteorologist Allan Baillie says today's temperature is a one-off.
"This week is going to be reasonably warm.
"Today is kind of the stand out day in terms of high temperatures for Christchurch.
"It will be a bit cooler tomorrow comparatively with a high of 21 which is still a bit warmer than the November average."
He says the temperature is caused by clear skies and a warm nor-westerly, and is expected to fluctuate again as expected for Spring. Christchurch should expect cloud and showers in the late afternoon.
Those heading to the T20 in Eden Park tonight should keep an eye on the forecast, with showers expected from 1pm until 7pm. The match against the West Indies is set to start at 7:15.
Next week is expected to be fine with sun for Marlborough Anniversary Day on Monday and partly cloudy but 23 degrees for Canterbury Show Day.
