The release date for the Nintendo Switch 2 has been announced: June 5, almost exactly eight years since the original Nintendo Switch was launched.

The Switch 2 will be able to play the original console’s library, as well as feature new exclusive games such as Mario Kart Worlds, Elden Ring, and Cyberpunk. It will also include revamped visuals for original titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Hogwarts Legacy.

The console functions as both a portable and home console, just like its predecessor. However, it features a 1080p screen in portable mode, offering improved graphics compared to the original Switch. The screen is also larger, and the controllers are now attached with strong magnets.

The console will retail for $799 NZD, a significant increase from the original’s $459 launch price. Many have shared their concerns about the price online.

"No way am I paying $500 for a slight upgrade over a system that’ll have 5 must-play games over its lifespan."

"Ok $600 is too much, that's PS5 Pro territory."
