“Christchurch definitely has something special in the air."

He might be from across the Tasman, but Australian musician Adam Hyde, best known as half of electronic duo Peking Duk, has a special place in his heart for the Garden City.

Speaking to MetroNews ahead of his solo gig in Lyttelton tonight, he said he'd always loved playing in Aotearoa, and Christchurch in particular.

"It’s a town that’s been through a lot, and the people are strong.”

He said Kiwis know how to “let loose” with music, calling it “a dream” to perform here.

“It’s going to be sweaty. It’s going to be fun."

He's touring for his solo project Keli Holiday, an alter ego he's released music as since 2021.

Tonight's show will feature his new track as Keli Holiday, Dancing2, which he said has already had a “beautiful reaction” from listeners, and he is excited to perform it live for the very first time.

Hyde said performing in front of large festivals and small crowds is “both magical” in different ways.

“You meet on this wavelength of energy.”

Hyde hoped fans would walk away from tonight’s show feeling happy, joyful, and elated.

The gig will take place at The Loons Club in Lyttelton at 7pm.

Hyde will also return in February next year with Peking Duck to perform at the annual two-day music festival Electric Avenue.
