Multiple community board chairpeople have been re-elected following the local elections.

Waipuna Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board

Former Chairperson Marie Pollisco has been re-elected to the Halswell ward, alongside Debbie Mora.

Mora, standing as an independent, received 4,312 votes - nearly 1000 less than the 2022 election, whereas Pollisco received 3,166 votes.

Pollisco says that she is honoured to be re-elected. "I look forward to working with the newly elected board members."

She will be working alongside Sarah Brunton and Cody Cooper for the Hornby ward, and Helen Broughton and Joseph Fullerton for the Riccarton ward.

Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū Banks Peninsula Community Board

Lyn Leslie has been re-elected unopposed as community board member for Wairewa subdivision.

Leslie became chairperson for the board in 2023 - replacing Reuben Davidson.

She moved to Little River in 2016 with her two children and husband, where she joined politics in 2018.

She will work alongside the Lyttleton subdivision board members, Jillian Frater and Cathy Lum-Webb.

Akaroa subdivision has elected Nigel Harrison and Asif Hussain unopposed.

 Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote Community Board

Heathcote Ward has re-elected Tim Lindley and Will Hall. Lindley received 4,224 votes and Hall 3,852, while challengers Jack Mould (2,955) and Daniel Nielsen (1,877) were unsuccessful. Both will continue to represent the ward alongside members from Cashmere and Spreydon.

Cashmere Ward elected Kate Hodgins with 4,199 votes and Keir Leslie with 3,740 votes. Lee Sampson and Craig Watson fell short with 3,218 and 2,715 votes.

Spreydon Ward saw Sophie Bond take the top spot with 3,829 votes, followed by incumbent Roy Kenneally with 3,294.

This board will see a mix of party-aligned and independent representation.

Waitai Coastal-Burwood-Linwood Community Board

Former Chairperson Paul McMahon received 2,541 votes, allowing him to retain his seat on the Linwood ward. He will be returning alongside Jackie Simons.

The Burwood ward voted in Greg Mitchell and Mihi-Rose Tipene, while Alex Hewison and Kim Money were elected unopposed to the costal ward.

McMahon says although it is premature to be discussing the possibility of running for chair once more, it is a privilege to be re-elected.

"The good thing is that the board looks very similar to last time... we have a good foundation to build on."

Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board

Ashleigh Feary (Straight Talk Real Results for Papanui) won a seat with 3,551 votes, alongside Simon Britten (The People’s Choice) on 3,475. Feary is new to the board, while Britten returns after being elected unopposed in 2022.

Independent Emma Twaddell has retained her seat with 3,666 votes, joined by Mike Davidson (The People’s Choice) on 2,787. Twaddell continues to work on local issues, while Davidson joins the board for the first time, replacing previous members who did not stand.

Labour’s Sunita Gautam and John Miller have both been re-elected, with 1,982 and 1,734 votes - maintaining Labour’s representation in the ward. Both first won their seats in 2022.

Waimāero Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board

Independent Citizens candidates have continued their strong representation, securing a majority of seats on the Waimāero Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board in this year’s local elections.

In the Harewood ward, Jason Middlemiss has retained his community board seat, topping the poll with 5,340 votes.

Fellow independent citizens candidate Lucy Keown was also elected with 4,608 votes - replacing Linda Chen, who did not stand for re-election.

Middlemiss’ support dropped slightly from 2022, when he received 6,320 votes, but is still a clear front runner in the ward.

In the Waimairi Ward, Nicola McCormick held her community board position, increasing her vote from 3,748 in 2022 to 4,408 this year.

She will be joined by Ben Spittle who received 2,929 votes. He replaces Shirish Paranjape, who did not stand this year.

In the Fendalton ward, former city councilor James Gough, has returned as community board member - winning 4,507 votes. Gough will be joined by Bridget Williams, who received 3,515 votes.
