A dedicated bus lane is proposed to run along Main North Rd, between Harewood Rd and Grassmere St.

Businesses on Main North Rd are worried they will lose customers if the proposed bus lane goes ahead.

The bus lane would wipe out all on-street parking between Grassmere St and Harewood Rd.

Main North Rd Super Liquor owner Carolyn Moffat said her business "... and that of our neighbours, rely on passing traffic because we are convenience-based".

The proposed change is designed to improve bus transit time through the area by 40 seconds.

Many business owners believe it's not worth the stress it will put on businesses.

"If they can't find a park, they keep going," Moffat said.

The Waipapa-Papanui-Innes Community Board held a meeting to address the issue.

Board chairperson Ali Jones said it was impossible to please everyone "but you've got to have that option that pleases as many people as possible".

Jones wanted businesses in the community to flourish.
