Kia ora! I’m Sam, a second-year Screen & Television Production student from the Kāpiti Coast.
I discovered my passion for screen production at 11 years old, and ever since I’ve been pursuing this passion, delving into all facets of the craft. I am diligent, industrious, and devoted to my work. I collaborate effectively and problem-solve efficiently, always remembering to think both logistically and creatively.
I’ve lit and shot stage shows, weddings, and recently I was the technical director for Metro News. Over the years I’ve solidified my focus on the technical aspects of screen production, such as lighting, editing, and camera work, which is where I excel. Additionally I’ve extended my experience to include directing, writing, storyboarding, producing, and more.
I am a sociable and good-natured person, always striving to learn new things, and I look forward to applying my skillset in my professional placement.
Documentary - Foster to Forever (Co-Creator, DOP)
'Foster to Forever' was a documentary I co-created and shot, with some of the footage being used on Breakfast on TVNZ 1. It was great to work with a local business to highlight their foster work.
Music Video - Wolf (Editor)
'Wolf' was a music video I edited. Learning to edit rhythmically and how to intersperse a narrative and a performance was a fun challenge. I also built a far greater understanding of Media Composer.
MetroNews 2023 (Technical Director)
I was the Technical Director for the 2023 iteration of MetroNews. It was fantastic to learn more about in-studio work and the technical behind-the-scenes, and collaborate with many departments.
Short Film - Law of Attraction (DOP)
'Law of Attraction' was a short drama that I was the Director of Photography for. I learnt a lot about tangibly translating the creative vision of a director.
Kids' Show - Riley's World (Floor Manager)
'Riley's World' was a kids' show that I floor managed. I learnt a lot about how to work with actors unfamiliar with a studio environment, and how to concisely feed information between groups.
