Two nurses were attacked at Hillmorton Hospital over the weekend, despite a raft of new safety initiatives being implemented.
There's a lack of information regarding what happened in the attacks, but Canterbury DHB Specialist Mental Health chief of Psychiatry Peri Renison, confirmed they took place.
Renison said both staff members were medically checked following the incident and are receiving ongoing support.
On Sunday night a third staff member slipped and injured their leg while attending to a distressed patient.
Management and clinicians are reviewing their models of care (the way they work) and stabilising staff numbers to improve safety, said Renison.
Renison also said one assault is one too many and it is fundamental staff feel comfortable raising their concerns.
