Hundreds of online posts are paying tribute to the two Christchurch 16 year olds who died in a car crash Sunday morning north of Amberley.

16-year-old Dexter Barham and Burgundy-Rose Brown died after crossing the centre line and crashing head-on into another vehicle near Amberley on Sunday morning.

Their facebook pages are filled with memories and sorrow but mostly tributes from friends and family.

Dexter was previously at Shirley Boys High and Burgundy-Rose was at Lincoln High School.

Shirley Boy's High principal, Tim Grocott, said Dexter was a cheerful and happy boy around the school.

"I think it's important to let the grief settle, but I think there are some messages that will come out of this. We are going to let people deal with the grief and the loss of their friend," said Grocott.

Dexter Barham left Shirley Boy's High at the end of last year to complete an apprenticeship.

His funeral will be held this Friday in Christchurch and Burgundy-Rose Brown's funeral will be held on Thursday.
