The latest speedway season has just begun, and seasoned racer Ben Morgan is unveiling a brand-new midget car.
The GHR Racing team has spent the off-season preparing their Clark Performance CP3X, cutting it close to the deadline to be able to hit the track.
Keeping the same powerful motor that has shown promising results in the past, the team is excited for Ben to have the opportunity to race a car that can match his impressive racing
“We built a brand new 73x at Tim Clark at Clark performance for the 24/25 season. It's top-of-the-line equipment really, throughout it's pretty much all new bits and our trusty old s slinger powering it”
With a new car and a fresh season ahead, he's feeling optimistic about what he and his team can achieve this year.
“I think we'll have plenty of car speed, we had lots with the car last year. It's a new car, it should be faster really. So I think we'll be pretty competitive and up the front most nights.”
When it came time for Morgan's first race, the team worked on the car until the very last minute. Hurrying to the track, Morgan made a statement with his first race. He was ahead by half a lap from second place and even lapped some racers. Some spectators commented on his performance.
“Woah he's so far ahead” said one.
“It looks like he's racing on his own,” another said.
Despite weather cancelling the remainder of the night, Team Manager, Glenn Milroy, was stoked with the results of the first race…seeing the potential of Morgan and the car for the upcoming season.
“You can't get much better than that, brand new car first time out”
With a trip to Auckland later this year for the closing of New Zealand's most iconic speedway track and the chance to compete against racers from all over the world, Ben has hopes of making the podium.
“We'd like to get some feature wins, we're going up to Auckland over Christmas to race with some guys from America and all the top North Island guys so hopefully we can get some top 5, top 10s. To put it on the podium up there would be awesome but we'll take what comes,” says Ben.
Morgan has big expectations for the rest of the season, expecting better results than ever.
“It's gonna be a learning season this season with the new car but it should be good.”
