Most ski fields are closed due to Level 2 restrictions but hope to take advantage of snow forecast from Thursday.

Mt Hutt closed today to conduct meetings with staff and establish safe protocol after the move to Level 2 Covid-19 restrictions.

The ski field aims to reopen Thursday.

Coronet Peak near Queenstown is likewise closed and plans to open Thursday. Its 46th annual dog derby on Saturday will go ahead.

Porters Ski Field remained open today under well-monitored conditions. Mountain manager Blair James said visitors were encouraged to use the contact tracing app.

"Social distancing will be pretty key," he said.

Snow is expected above 600 metres about Banks Peninsula from Thursday, providing perfect temperatures for a cold visit up the slopes.
