Lydia Gliddon has claimed the Selwyn mayoralty, defeating incumbent Sam Broughton.

With a difference of 11,341 votes between Gliddon and Broughton, Gliddon announced on Facebook that she was deeply honored to have been provisionally elected as mayor.

Broughton and his fellow mayoral candidates Gliddon and Brad Mannering ran their campaigns with a strong focus on keeping rates low and consistent for the following term. This focus on rate control was attributed to Selwyn's district growth, where between 2013 and 2023 alone the number of homes has increased by 78%.

Broughton has publicly acknowledged Gliddon on Facebook, congratulating her and the new councillors in their positions.

Additionally, he thanked the community for supporting him over his last nine years as mayor and said he looks forward to seeing good things continue for Selwyn.

Selwyn's voter turnout was 38.97%, down from 42.44% at the last election.
