Canterbury secondary school skiing and basketball championships are being reviewed in light of Alert Level 2.

This comes after SuperNet and a cycle racing event set to take place Wednesday were cancelled. Gatherings of more than 100 people are not allowed at Alert Level 2.

Canterbury Secondary Schools Sport Director Bill Grogan said it was the smartest idea to keep people safe and healthy.

He said it was "very disappointing", especially for students in their final year.

Despite this, he was hopeful it would not affect events later in the year.

"[We] will do our best to provide opportunities, but have to abide by the rules... are doing everything in our power."
