The road toll has risen to 110 deaths

A man died after a crash involving a truck and a ute in Karapiro in the early hours of the morning.

Fifteen more people have died this year than at the same time last year.

This means there has been an average of more than 8 deaths per week on the roads in New Zealand this year.

Six people died over the Easter break, triple the number of road deaths last Easter.

The Government has outlined priorities for a 10-year transport plan in a move to improve road safety and save lives.

It will hold a summit in Wellington on Monday to make road safety a top priority.
