City reinstated as refugee resettlement location for the first time since the 2010 earthquake.

Christchurch will be home to 60 new refugees from Africa and the Middle East by the end of next year.

Immigration minister Iain Lees-Galloway said reinstating Christchurch as a resettlement location would help increase refugee numbers to 1500 per year.

A Red Cross spokesperson said Christchurch had a proud history of providing a warm and friendly welcome to its newest residents.
