Despite a warm weekend, rain will continue to fall for the rest of the week.

Metservice has reported temperatures averaging 14 degrees throughout the week with light and heavy rain also expected.

Heavy rain comes from the remnanats of ex-tropical Cyclone Debbie which has come across the ditch on a front.

Metservice has predicted the worst rainfall is reserved for Central North Island today and tomorrow.

The South Island will experience the worst rainfall on Wednesday.

The New Zealand Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) said some parts of New Zealand will experience a months rain in two-three days.

In Christchurch you'll have to wait until Friday to hang out your washing, when the sun will come out in the afternoon after early showers with a high of 18 degrees.
