Emergency services were called to a crash at around 8.20am.
St John spokesman Gerard Campbell said two people were taken to hospital, one with serious injuries and one with moderate to minor injuries.
Witnesses described the crash as "very loud".
Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
The intersection was initially blocked but reopened shortly after 9.30am.
