New Brighton hub to provide post-quake 'creative buzz'

Rebeckah Dell

New Brighton residents are excited about the opening of a new community hub on an old school site.

The Old School Te Kura Tawhiti, on the former Central New Brighton School site, will open next week as a ''creative hub'' including art, wellbeing sessions, education workshops and more.

Coastal-Burwood Community Board member Kim Money said the hub was great for the local community.

"This is exactly what we need to revitalise the area."

New Brighton Project Community co-ordinator Sarah Butterfield said the hub would “have a creative buzz''.

She said it had been a “long time coming”.

“It will be great for the New Brighton community when the hub opens.”

Regenerate Christchurch hopes that reopening the school will provide a space for people to share ideas for rejuvenating the community.

The Old School will open on September 23 at 11am.
