Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, Government Ministers, and Public Service Chief Executives will be taking a 20 percent pay cut for the next six months.

This is a move to acknowledge New Zealanders who are reliant on wage subsidies, taking pay cuts themselves, and losing jobs amid the Coronavirus lockdown.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the pay cut was to show leadership and would not affect the Government's fiscal position.

"If there was ever a time to close the gap between groups of people across New Zealand in different positions it is now," said Ardern.

For Ardern, this pay cut will amount to about $47,104 in losses.
