It's time to reflect on one of New Zealand's most decorated children's writers.

Today is Margaret May Mahy's birthday.

Over the years, Mahy's name has been in the media and has been honored with the opening of new facilities around the city center.

Last year, Miranda Harcourt and Stuart McKenzie released a film starring Timothy Spall called 'The Changeover,' based on the novel by Margaret Mahy.

In 2015, the the largest playground in the Southern Hemisphere based in Christchurch opened and was named after the award winning author.

In 2011, Mahy won New Zealand's premiere children's book aware for The Moon and Farmer McPhee.

During her lifetime, she wrote over 200 books and wrote her first story at the young age of seven.

Margaret Mahy died aged 76 in 2012, but she will still be remembered by many with the stories she has left behind.
