Zion Purukamu was fatally stabbed at an Airbnb party at Medbury Terrace, in Fendalton.
Two other teenagers, aged 14 and 17, have been recovering from stab wounds at Christchurch Hospital.
Over the course of three days, Police have investigated the scene and interviewed people to get a clearer picture of what happened on the night.
A young person is appearing in the Christchurch Youth Court today, on one count of murder and two counts of wounding.
Police have confirmed Zion's whānau have been told about the arrest, and gave their thanks to the public who've helped in the police investigation.
The arrest does not mean the end of the Operation Medbury investigation, with Police reissuing their appeal for people who were at the party to come forward.
