Darryll Park, one of the city's candidates for the top job, has announced his stance against illegal substances and their impact on crime.

The established business-owner and mayoral hopeful has voiced his concern that both serious and petty crimes are negatively affecting the community.

This comes in light of Park's policy announcement.

He said illicit substances were a major influencer of offenses, and are too easy to come by.

"I've come across it [drugs] in, obviously, the hospitality sector, and it's pretty prevalent, and it shouldn't be." Park said.

Nominations for the local body elections closed on Friday.
