Lucy Bendell

Father was on a bike ride with daughter during lockdown before being hit and killed by a van.

James Solvander appeared via audio-visual link in Christchurch District Court on August 10 before Judge Kellar.

Solvander pleaded guilty to two charges of drug-driving causing death and drug-driving causing injury. He will be sentenced on October 2.

Father-of-two Clint Hoeben, 48, was hit by Solvander, who was driving a van in North Canterbury on April 2.

Hoeben had taken his 14-year-old daughter out for a short bike ride, both wearing helmets when a van travelling in the same direction crashed into them.

Hoeben and his daughter were about 1 kilometre into their trip along Oxford Rd in Fernside, heading towards McIntoshs Rd when they were both knocked off their bikes.
