Health officials 'ignore' nurses' sex abuse claims

Louise Ternouth

Nurses are outraged, saying their sexual abuse complaints are being swept under the rug.

Nurses say their complaints of sexual abuse from patients are being ignored.

They are outraged that the Canterbury District Health Board (DHB) has not addresses the issue. Many have vented their frustrations in groups on Facebook.

DHB chief execuitve David Meates said he was "extremely concerned to hear that they don’t feel their concerns have been responded to or treated seriously".

Meates encouraged nurses to get in contact with the health board to make their complaints.

"If someone doesn't think that a concern they've raised has been appropriately addressed, there are a number of very clear pathways through which to escalate their concerns," Meates said.
