Mike King, founder of The Key to Life Charitable Trust, announced on his Twitter this afternoon that $917,632.63 has been donated through the Gumboot Friday Campaign.

This is just five days since Mike King asked New Zealanders to chuck on their gumboots and help raise money to provide free mental health counselling for kids.

This is just under half of The Key to Life Trust's goal of $2 million dollars.

Robert Read, Mental Health Advocate and organiser of the Gumboot Friday event in Christchurch last week, says the amount of donations so far is amazing.

"It shows just how much we the people can do to help create the changes we need in this country," Robert says.

There has already been a Gumboot Friday planned for 2020.
