Liquid Gold: Inside the Fudge Cottage

Lucy Smith

Post-quake fudge trade in the suburbs isn't great, but a return to the city is likely.

This month the Fudge Cottage will celebrate 25 years of serving up sweet treats for Christchurch.

The shop was based in the Christchurch Arts Centre before the earthquakes after which it was forced to shift to a suburban site in Bishopdale.

Fudge Cottage managing director Kevin Burns said the move had caused a significant loss in foot traffic to the shop, but he was optimistic of a return to the city in the near future.

Burns and his confectioners may be celebrating 25 years, but many aspects of the business haven’t changed, with a strong focus on handcrafted goods packed full of tradition.
