The fog is starting to lift, but Christchurch airport faces a busy day of rescheduling cancelled and diverted flights.
Twenty flights have been cancelled, other flights have been delayed and rescheduled.
Despite the fog, temperatures will rise to a balmy high of 18 degrees.
