Christchurch City Council pushes for electric vehicles

Samantha Olley

City council makes provisions for electric cars and charging stations.

The Christchurch City Council is pushing for infrastructure for electric vehicles and it wants the government’s help.

“We are also looking at 5 of the fast charging stations in and around greater Christchurch by early next year and encouraging retail and hotels and parking buildings to provide charging for customers,” Deputy mayor Vicki Buck said.

A concept report out this week says having fuel-powered vehicles replaced by electric ones will reduce our nation’s carbon footprint by a huge amount.
