More than $47,000 has been raised in just two days for the grieving parents of a one-year-old killed in a Christchurch dog attack.
Sonny Charles Watson died after sustaining serious injuries from dog bites near his Aranui home on Friday afternoon.
A Give a Little page was set up the following Sunday, and continues to gather momentum as the community rallies around the family.
The page was created by a close friend of the family to relieve the financial pressure on parents Greg Watson and Jordan Doherty.
Sonny's parents shared a message following the tragedy, describing their one year old son as "the light of our lives".
"Sonny was not just the light of our lives but everyone he came in contact with. The most beautiful boy, full of love and laughter for everyone. Shine bright our ray of sunshine."
The investigation into the attack is still ongoing and the Christchurch City Council has been working closely with police.
On Monday the council said the dog involved, a crossbreed, was being held at the council's animal shelter while police investigated.
"The dog is registered and has not previously come to the council's attention. There had been no prior reason for council officers to visit the property."
Because the incident was still under investigation, the council said it could not comment further.
All funds raised through the Give a Little page will go directly to the family.
