The extension is until June 30th next year and is due to the extra one billion dollars allocated to the D.S.S (Disability support services) in last month's budget to tackle increasing costs.
The funding will be rolled out over the next four years and will help the task force further stabilize the D.S.S.
The boost includes $60 million a year for people in residential care, $10 million over two years for people with intellectual disabilities and $9.5 million over four years to recognise and respond to the Abuse in Care Royal Commission of Inquiry.
Disabilities minister Louise Upston says “This Government is committed to the ongoing support of the disability community and delivering better outcomes for disabled people, their families and carers,”
The task force was created in September last year to better manage cost pressures after Upston launched an independent review into the D.S.S. The review revealed the D.S.S had been running into problems involving unsustainable spending and a lack of fairness and transparency around what support disabled people can access.
Upston says she is now looking to the Taskforce to lead more work to further strengthen the system. She will have more to say on the next phase of work in the coming months.
