Niwa says ex-tropical cyclone Hola will not impact the South Island at all.

Ex-tropical cyclone Hola has hit New Zealand, but will only affect the North Island.

Niwa principal scientist for forecasting Chris Brandolino says there will be quite a lot of rainfall across Coromandel, Gisborne and Hawke's Bay but Christchurch can expect a beautiful day.

For Ōtautahi it will be a sunny day with a high of 22 degrees.

Brandolino says the South Island will get a bit colder by midweek with some showers on Tuesday but it will not be related to the ex-tropical cyclone.

Brandolino says some of the information in the media is promising North Islanders high wind speeds.

He doesn't even think winds will reach 100km/ph, let alone 130km/ph.
