The crash involving a truck and two cyclists happened on State Highway 8 just after 6am.
One cyclist was killed while the other, 62-year-old English man, was taken by helicopter to Christchurch hospital. He is in a stable condition.
State Highway 8 between the intersections of Mount Cook Rod and Glen Lyon Road was closed until 1.30pm as the scene was investigated.
