Aimee Goodmanson, the only South Island representative to be named in the NZ JWSX California Tour Team

With a background in cricket, Goodmanson transferred her ball skills into the softball scene at a young age. Influenced by her friends, she began playing softball for the U13 team at Rolleston Softball Club.

Goodmanson has since found a passion for the sport, representing Canterbury in both the U17 and U19 age groups. Next week, the first baseman will wear the fern for the first time as she represents the Junior White Sox in California. She said she was shocked to read her name on the team announcement.

“Someone posted 'congratulations Aimee' on Facebook. I clicked the link and saw my name, I couldn’t believe it. Since then it’s been so exciting”.

As Goodmanson is the only South Island representative, she’s been having to put in extra work alone in preparation for the tour.  Training 6 days a week, with a minimum of 3 sessions that include cardio, tee, speed, and agility, she also finds time to work on long tosses and attend club team trainings.

Goodmanson's club coach and Junior White Sox Assistant coach, Carley Ratu, said she has seen immense growth from the young athlete in such a short period of time.

“I think what shines for Aimee is her work ethic. She’s certainly grown physically but has also grown in communication and game knowledge as well”.

Goodmanson said she is grateful for the support of her role models Aaron Collier, Stephen Ratu and Carley Ratu, who have helped coach her to success.

The JWSX team departs New Zealand this Thursday and will tour in California until the 15th of October.
