After six months back in the heart of Ōtautahi, the Court Theatre's 2026 season has been announced.

Chief Executive Richard Aindow says The Court Theatre is ready to throw its doors wide open in 2026 and celebrate its thriving community.

“We’re delighted to lift the curtain on a programme that promises thrills and chills, laughter and heartbreak, drama and delight.”

The year kicks off on January 23 with the Court Jesters performing the popular Scared Scriptless.

Other plays featured in the upcoming year include Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, At the Wake, and Finding Nemo Jr.

Casting is yet to be announced.

“From epic adventures to intimate stories, 2026 is set to be a dazzling year of theatre and community.”

This season has grasped onto another opportunity to celebrate Christchurch pride. Rainbow Theatre Festival, a celebration of queer creativity and community, will run from March 5 to 8.

Comedians, storytellers, drag artists, and performers will bring bold new ideas, old favourites, and surprises to The Court Theatre stages.

Heading into its third year, everyone is encouraged to celebrate and reflect in a welcoming environment.

The 2025 season finishes on February 1 with the music of Dolly Parton in 9 to 5 The Musical.

“The past six months have shown us what is possible when theatre is once again at the heart of the city.”
Chief Executive Richard Aindow

In typical Court theatre fashion, the last six months have seen many shows, including SpongeBob the Musical, The King's Speech, and Twelfth Night.

Award-winning playwright Victor Rodgers' show Black Faggot also hit the stage in time for Pride Month. Directed by the star of Tīna, Anapela Polata’ivao, the play brought the heartwarming and raw truth of what it means to be a part of the Samoan and Queer community to the Garden City.
