North Canterbury Police are making an effort to connect with their community.
Constable Aaron Campbell and Sergeant Mel Noonan are at Waikuku Beach from 11am to 1pm today, offering coffee to citizens in exchange for a chat.
Noonan said it was an "opportunity to be able to take some time to discuss some issues the community may have... issues that we don't always have the opportunity to when we are in response mode".
The event is free and open to any members of the Kaiapoi community.
The meet-up is the first of its kind for Canterbury and North Canterbury Police.
