Campaign trails stopped in their tracks

Most parties have suspended all in-person campaigning in the early days of campaign trails and bus tours.

Just over a month from the general election, political parties face a road bump after the four cases of Covid-19 community transmission in Auckland.

National leader Judith Collins cancelled all party campaign events scheduled for Wednesday.

Act Party leader David Seymour wrote an open letter to the speaker of the house calling for a postponement of the dissolution of parliament considering the circumstances. The party's Change Your Future bus tour stop at Beachlands has been cancelled due to the level 3 lockdown announcement.

Green Party Tweet

Winston Peters Tweeted that New Zealand First's campaign was suspended as of 9pm Tuesday.

The Green Party is awaiting further health advice and suspending in-person campaigning.

Prime minister Jacinda Ardern has decided to delayed the dissolution of parliament from August 12 at 11am "to at least the next few days".
