In breaking news, shots have been fired at Al Noor Mosque on Deans Avenue in Christchurch Central.
Armed police and ambulances are on the scene, with what is believed to be an armed and active gunman.
A man from a neighbouring home, who has asked to remain unnamed has reported seeing two bodies on the ground, and people emerging bloody and injured from the mosque.
"There are a few walking wounded, bleeding a bit. And police are still carrying their firearms, and they appear to taking shelter from the gunman. The gunman is still alive."
The man heard about five shots. "I've done a bit of hunting in my time, and I know a firearm shot when I hear it."
The neighbour said he heard the gunman yell "'Armed police, come to me".
All traffic on Dean's Avenue has been stopped, and a number of areas around the city have since been cordoned off.
"The situation is still going on. It's not under control yet, I would say."
More to come.
