Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shops are celebrating Free Cone Day on April 9 around the world as a way to thank the community.

Thousands of people are set to visit Ben & Jerry’s Tuesday for its annual Free Cone Day.

Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop, located on Oxford Terrace near the Bridge of Remembrance will treat people with a taste of its ice cream.

Free Cone Day will run from 12 pm to 8 pm, offering a free scoop of ice cream.

They will be offering many much-loved flavours, such as Chocolate Fudge Brownie and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.

Student James Skinner was excited to try Ben and Jerry’s for the first time. He would be trying the cookies and cream flavour.

Franchisee Mark Copplestone said it will be a fun day and is about everyone having a great time. There would be music and prizes, he said.

Ben and Jerry’s opened in Christchurch in December, the first of its kind in New Zealand.

Copplestone said Christchurch’s last free scoop event was held in January. It had up to 2000 people come. This time, he was expecting more people because the event would be four hours longer.
