Snow is forecast for Thursday as the country prepares for its second wave of Covid-19 restrictions.

As fog settles in Wednesday morning, a showery Thursday with snow down to 600m on Bank Peninsula is on the horizon.

MetService has forecast a high of 12°C with sunset at 5.41pm.

At 7.30am, the temperature was 1.2°C. Northeasterly breezes are developing, which will keep the chill in the air.

Despite the fog, flights departing from and arriving at Christchurch Airport have not been delayed.
