May 1 marks the start of New Zealand Music Month, which is celebrating it's 20th year.   NZMusic

When COVID-19 arrived in New Zealand, it forced 'NZMusic' to re-think their entire music month campaign.

It has been decided that this year's theme is to "support local, stream local, follow local, and buy local".

Now in its 20th year, the month of May will see new releases from artists across Aotearoa, alongside online events, promotions, and awards.

NZ Music Month’s Rodney Fisher says this is "a time to feel proud of our musicians and music industry as we find our feet again and make plans for the future".

"Let’s all have a great month enjoying and supporting each other.”

Christchurch music venue, The Darkroom is kicking off events today with a two-day live-stream fundraiser, to make sure they can re-open their doors once lockdown levels reduce.

George FM is also running a 'Top 100 Aotearoa Anthems' countdown today.
