Kids get active to support community

The McDonald's annual duathlon brought together over 1000 children of all ages.

Hagley Park was full of life on Saturday for the McDonald's annual youth duathlon. 

Over 1000 Kids from as young as seven to fifteen years took part in the race in the morning consisting of a run and then a bike ride. 

Christchurch Rotary Club were behind the event and proceeds were to support youth projects in the community. 

The races theme favoured participation over winning to encourage healthy habits for young people. 

 "It was a great day and fun to compete with friends, " ten year-old competitor Mehdi Shafahi said.  

 The event was another great success and organisers look forward to repeating it again next year.
