More than 300 sports fields in Christchurch will be transformed this week to prepare for the winter season.

Council and contractors have worked on preparing winter lines and goal posts to be ready for next week's kick off.

Christchurch City Council head of parks Andrew Rutledge said they have been painting lines for the winter on summer sport fields over the last few weeks.

He said there is over 1000 hours of work to be complete in the short break between winter and summer seaosns, which makes things difficult.

Andrew Rutledge said not all fields had irrigation, so expect different conditions depending on where games are played.
