The Waimakariri Youth Council have big ideas for the Rangiora skate park and are hoping to have Council funding.

Last year the Rangiora skate park received a whole lot of negative attention around the community in relation to bullying, alcohol and anti-social behavior.

"We want to renovate and build on the space there. Our aim is not to create a new place but to conjoin both spaces and bring the two demographics together," Youth Council member Katie Lange says.

The Waimakariri Youth Council team is currently in the process of submitting to the Council's annual plan for partial funding of the project. They are also hoping to get the community involved giving them the opportunity for anyone to submit ideas and suggestions.

"It is an exciting project and it's great to see our young people taking positive action in our community," Youth Development Facilitator Sam Redman says.

Youth council members say their ultimate aspiration is to inspire further development in the Dudley park area, which they believe has potential to become a real centre of community impact and growth.
